If you always wanted to learn the art and science of Valuation, you are at the right place. Financial Modelling is the science and art of doing valuations using excel spreadsheets.  If you are working in Finance Industry or are intending to work in finance field, this is a must course for you. You after doing your CFA/CA/CWA essentially work on excel sheets to evaluate businesses using financial models. This is the skill you must get in order for you to perform better in your jobs.

What is Financial Models?

All financial decisions are based on financial data and its projections about costs and revenues. Systematically capturing these data into an excel spreadsheet and performing analysis to reach a decision about investing is Financial Modelling. So you can tell that Financial Model is a tool to reach your decision about investment. ie with financial model you can confidently say whether you should invest or not. 

Who uses Financial Models?

There are number of people who use Financial Models. Lets understand who are they

1. Equity Research Analyst: Equity Research Analyst uses financial models day in and day out. Its their bread and butter. If you are thinking to make a career in equity research you need to think about financial modelling skills. Equity Research Analyst learn about industry, collects information about companies, discusses the corporate future with management and finally put all these information into a financial models and derive the valuation of stock. He then compares the valuation with the stock price and if the stock price is greater than the valuation, he will give sell or hold recommendation. If stock price is less than Valuation, he will give buy recommendation. You can not do equity research without building financial models

2. Investment Banking: If you are employed into Investment Banking where you are raising debt or equity through Term Loan or IPO , you will need to justify the debt bearing capacity of the Company or you may need to arrive at the fair price of the stock for IPO. Again you can do these with the help of financial models. Its a must skill for you as you will be asked to evaluate bankability of the projects. You derive fair valuation for your Mergers and Acquisition ( M&A) analysis.

3. Private Equity/Venture Capital/Angel Investors/NBFC/Banks: All the investors in the business use financial models to evaluate prospects of your company and its growth potential. It gives them insights about how your company is likely to perform in future. It gives them indications of how optimistic you are for your company. On that basis they can derive the valuation and determine the quantum of investment with you. If you are a banker you will want to know the ability of the borrower to repay the debt and its future earning potential. You can know this only by analyzing the financial model of the Company

4. Corporate Finance: If you are working as executive in Corporate Finance Division of the Company, you will be asked to evaluate investment proposals of the Company. The capital budgeting decisions are based on financial models. Top management takes various decisions about M&A, Investment and Outsourcing based on financial models. In the course you will learn how to build project finance models. 

5. Business Entrepreneurs: Business Entrepreneurs will be able to evaluate feasibility of their idea/start up by performing financial models. If you are a business owner or intend to be one, you may want to evaluate your idea about taking franchise, joint venture and joint development, etc. You can do your Return on Investment ( ROI) analysis by using financial models
